Ando Customer App v2

Outcome
A redesigned consumer app for two countries that cut a returning customer's path from open to placed order from twelve taps to five, with dish-level search, a single home for offers, and a membership and rewards layer built into the ordering flow.
Context
Ando's customer app is how people in Kenya and Rwanda order food. V1 worked. V2 had to make ordering faster for people who already know what they want, and easier for people who do not.
The problem
- Reordering meant rebuilding the same basket every time: twelve taps from open to placed order for a customer repeating last week's meal. Ordering behaviour was not used to shorten the path.
- Search found restaurants, not dishes. A customer who wanted a specific meal had to guess which restaurant to open.
- Offers were scattered across the app with no single place to compare them.
- Twelve taps to repeat an order (long user flow).
The goal
Let customers place an order quickly and without unnecessary steps, whether they are repeating a favourite or discovering something new, and pass iOS and Android store review with nothing flagged.

What I did
Design
- Designed personalisation from ordering behaviour: "Past choices" to repeat a previous order and "Your favourites" for one-tap reorder of saved orders.
- Rebuilt search as a two-mode system: one query, switchable between restaurant results and dish results. Dish results carry the price, the offer discount and the restaurant, so a customer who knows the meal skips the restaurant guessing game entirely.
- Designed filters that work identically in both modes: ratings, pricing and offers. Narrowing a search does not require learning two systems.
- Designed the empty search state as a launcher, not a blank: recent searches to resume a past hunt, and cuisine tags to start browsing with a tap instead of typing.
- Designed a dedicated offers page, sortable by offer type, so every promotion lives in one place.
- Designed the membership and rewards layer: Ando Pass (paid monthly membership with unlimited free deliveries and restaurant discounts) and Ando Hearts (points earned per order, redeemable at checkout).
- Defined a balanced navigation system: which views carry the tab bar, which carry a back button, and which carry neither, so the app does not feel like a stack of unrelated screens.

Result
- A repeat order takes five taps, down from twelve in v1: a 58% shorter path for the app's most frequent job.
- App launches soon (results/metrics will follow after launch).
